What’s new and worthy:

• the reverse engineering module now support database definition files
• there is an UML profile for OpenEdge available as well, while not mandatory it is required in order to have all OpenEdge Domain Specific Language features
• help integrated in Eclipse help system

Looks like there was an error in build setting on the ‘profile’ plug-in that made it unavailable for the reverse engineering module… the issue was corrected and a new version uploaded on update site.

For different reasons the open-source approach is not being considered anymore for the project, however a “community edition” license is available for non-commercial use.

Being still an on-going work the project will continue to have releases based on ‘release early, release often‘ philosophy common to most open-source projects, any feedback is as always more than welcome.

Because of the fact that the customer base in Romania and Hungary is probably not as strong as in Germany or Netherlands we are looking to join forces in order to have at least one PUG in the region to serve the customers in both countries.

The benefits for the customers will be to get the chance to keep up with the latest developments and the technologies made available as well as sharing ideas and information on best practices or even promoting solutions to other Progress partners in the region. The number of participants from this region at EMEA PUG Challenge events is usually very limited and that might be not just because of the lack of interest. Being able to host such events (although at a more reduce scale of course) closer to them might prove to be more cost effective for the customers in the region leading to a more active Progress community and being able to easily disseminate new technologies and best practices to the ultimate target of creating more business opportunities for everyone.

If you have interests in that area come and join Dr. Thomas Mercer-Hurst, Julian Lyndon-Smith and myself each of us presenting different approaches to MDA as well as Rapid Application Development.

Given the ‘birds of a feather‘ model of the session this is supposed to be more like an interactive chat than a presentation, if there are any subjects in that area that you find particularly interesting and care to share them with us even before the session we will really love to hear from you. The new project name is Okapi – simply because it did seemed appropriate for a project that is mixing MDA with Progress OpenEdge – and is going to include further modules that relates to MDA in conjunction with Progress OpenEdge:

  • constructors (methods with the same name as the class)
  • interface implementation (all methods from implemented interfaces)
  • internal temp-tables, datasets (nested components)
  • referenced (dependency) temp-tables, datasets (includes if not nested, in-line definition for nested components)
  • protected user code sections for methods and class main block (don’t get overwritten on re-generation)
• Temp-Table – class that inherits “Temp-Table” data type (generalization)
  • generate as include file if not nested component (internal class)
  • all properties as fields
  • all methods as indexes
• Dataset – class that inherits “Dataset” data type (generalization)
  • generate as include file if not nested component (internal class)
  • all internal temp-tables (nested components)
  • all referenced (dependency) temp-tables (includes if not nested, in-line definition for nested components)
  • protected user code section for data-relations definition

• added support for SQL syntax
• added support for update operations (CREATE, UPDATE, DELETE); for both ABL and SQL syntax
